National Bank of Antigua & Barbuda

The National Bank of Antigua and Barbuda was a private, commercial bank in Antigua and Barbuda, one of the Channel Islands. It operated between 1994 and 1997.

The bank was formed in 1994 by a merger of the Antigua Bank, National Bank of the Cayman Islands and the Banco de Antigua. The merger was partly necessitated by the closure of the Antigua International Bank.

The Royal Bank of Canada held a 30% stake in the Antigua Bank. The other 30% was owned by Colonial Bank, the Industrial Bank of Barbados, the Real-Inca Bank and the Maldon Bank.

The bank used the Canadian model of banking, which allowed it to make use of Canadian brokerage companies like Aurobindo. This had the effect of preventing the bank from attracting deposits and controlling its own reserve requirement, and the bank failed in 1997. This was probably the first failure of a Canadian subsidiary bank in the Caribbean.

Scala custom trait: Option vs some

We have a trait to make sure that we always are returning non-null, and we want to maintain a default implementation for a case where it is something else.
We have a
trait Dog {

For example if a dog object is created like so:

I was planning on having a default implementation that can be overriden by the user.
def sound: Some[String] = Some(“Woof”)

But I have a feeling it will not actually do that in this case, as it will be evaluating the impl method twice.
In what circumstances does this approach not work? What is the correct way to go about this?


It will work as written. The default implementation is not called (directly) if an explicit Some is provided.


You can do it like this:
def sound: Option[String] = Some(“Woof”)
def soundOrDefault: String = if (sound.isEmpty) “Default” else sound.getOrElse(“Default”)

My answer is in Scala, but is the same in Java.
Update: Thanks to Peter’s comment, I’ve tested and found it does not work. When using the default implementations, it will call the default methods for the default values. The thing we should be most worried about is that if you modify the default methods in the default value, it will be called two times.


NVD3 Stacked BarChart convert to LineChart in R

I am using the NVD3 package for a chart, and I want it to be converted to a line chart, so I can see where the data has a statistically significant change.
I have already found this question about converting a stacked bar chart to a line chart, but I cannot get this data to convert correctly. This is the code that I am using with the data from the NVD3 tutorials.
